Simon Norris, Stephen Thrower

“Cyclobe are a duo formed in the mid-nineties by Stephen Thrower and Ossian Brown, both of whom were members of the esoteric musick group Coil in different periods of the band’s life. With Cyclobe, Thrower and Brown venture deeper into unearthly aural territories, creating dramatic psychedelic works seething with mutant texture. Cyclobe in 2007 are about to take a new step into live performance, aided by Thighpaulsandra (synthesizers), Cliff Stapleton (hurdy gurdy), and film projections generated by Cyclobe and the London artist/filmmaker Anna Thew. This live debut performance precedes the release of a series of 4-track Cds and their next full length studio album, to be released later in the year. Their previous works include the albums Luminous Darkness, The Visitors and Paraparaparalellogrammatica (the latter in collaboration with Nurse With Wound).”

This second release from Cyclobe is in my opinion better than the first one. They have developed their idea further and there seems to be more structure and coherence in the music. Electronics are here on the front, they are abstract but evocative. In a sense the feeling I get from the album is very Lovecraftian for some reason. The electronics remind me sometimes of Coil and sometimes of artists from the austrian Mego label. The acoustics instruments complement the electronics. Ossian Browns hurdy gurdy is especially interesting and manages to generate a very distinctive dronelike sound. One of the tracks has strings and the feeling of the song is almost Romantic with the strings laden with emotions, although the electronics crackle on the background adding a sinister feels to the track. Overall a fine release from Cyclobe, I am waiting for their upcoming release which should be a collaboration with Nurse With Wound.

I'd love to hear this but the link doesn't work, it doesn't end with .rar

This is a fantastic blog, wicked posts, good reading.

Many thanks!

The link does work but due to the length of the Possession albums title, you may need to add .rar to the folders name before using winrar.

Easy as that, thank You!

I'll be keeping an eye on your wonderful blog.
