The Dumpster Tapes
Baby Sex

While The Residents are known to be incredibly embarrassed by their early works (and strive to keep them unreleased in their original form) they may be reasonably proud of Baby Sex, as several tracks from this have appeared on compilations. It was also broadcast in its entirety on a radio station in Oregon during a Residents Radio Festival in 1977.
The second half of the album is a studio collage which includes portions of The Residents' impromptu live performance at San Francisco's Boarding House in October 1971. Assisted by Snakefinger and N. Senada they staged a "terrorist attack" on the club, performing for thirty minutes. The album also features a cover of Frank Zappa's "King Kong".

The Warner Brothers Album.

Back in the early '70's The Residents weren't organizing material into albums, they just did stuff, usually experimental fragments. One day they took some of these fragments and strung them together and sent them off to Warner Bros as a demo where it was ill received as commercial. The Residents being restless re-inventors, rebuilt the demo a few times, recording new material and redoing older material to tighten it up. However they never got it to be what they thought it should be and set it aside, unfinished, to start on a new project.
So the work sat around. At some point a villainous thief stole a bunch of recordings from the studio, some version of the demo was taken and then sold for personal gain and leaked onto the internet. The original fragments remained untouched however.

ThanX to Jason on Ning for these covers.

Info:
Here's an interesting collection of tracks. The first two are unreleased performances of "I Hear Ya Got Religion," recorded in 1969, and the third snippet is from those same sessions. Fans of this song will enjoy hearing these extended jams. The Residents having a jam session?? Who would've guessed! Wild saxaphone solos abound.
Tracks 4 through 15 were recorded live in the studio, 1980, as rehearsals for a tour which never happened. Various takes from those rehearsals were released on the album "Assorted Secrets," but all the takes offered here are UNRELEASED. None of these particular performances have been issued, they are all unique versions, many with different arrangements and instruments. Fans will also be delighted to note several songs which never made it to "Assorted Secrets" in any form, such as "The Talk Of Creatures," "Love Leaks Out," and "Walter Westinghouse".
Tracks 16-19 seem to be demos from the "Title In Limbo" collaboration with Renaldo & The Loaf. An early version of "Woman's Weapon" and a very different version of "Monkey And Bunny," as well as two instrumental tracks which, as far as I can tell, have never seen the light of day in any form.
Fans of the "Assorted Secrets" rehearsals will love these additional performances to augment their collection, and the recordings even feature false starts, studio banter, and little improvisations which paint a more intimate picture of the Residents in the studio.
Bobert thank you.
Enjoy!!!

Wow, Rusty Coathangers? I wasn't entirely sure that stuff even existed tbh, nice work for proving me wrong! The cynic in me'd like to believe that these "leaks" are elaborate fakes but evidently they're NOT. I picked up WB & B.Sex online a while back & the latter is, frankly, excellent - I've no idea why The Residents have tried to suppress it for so long?
Have you seen B.Sex's original sleeve btw? Rather shocking, to say the least!
Congratulations for this nice blog about Residents oddities! A very good work of investigations and explainations!
What about the residents assorted secrets cassette/cd? A very hard to find and buy project!
